Our First Endorsement: Gabby Salinas for Senate
We launched TIRRC Votes this year because we're in the fight of our lives.
By organizing a powerful coalition of pro-immigrant voters, we believe that we can defeat anti-immigrant candidates up and down the ballot and elect real champions for working families across Tennessee. This kind of political organization for the immigrant rights movement in Tennessee has the power to transform politics in our state, in 2018 and beyond.
We're thrilled to announce our very first endorsement: Gabby Salinas for Senate District 31.
Gabby's story inspires and reminds us of the values of this country that should be driving the policies of our state.
As a young girl in Bolivia, Gabby was diagnosed with cancer. She and her family immigrated to Memphis to receive life-saving care at St. Jude's. Decades later, she returned to the research hospital as a scientist. Gabby is a testament to what's possible when we invest in giving people opportunities - opportunities to migrate, to seek care, to learn, and to thrive.
When she's elected to the state senate, Gabby will be a fierce advocate for Medicaid expansion and access to care, for in-state tuition for undocumented youth and for access to opportunity for all immigrant families. Gabby is the progressive champion we need to represent Shelby County.
