The election is in 49 days… here’s our first endorsement
Now more than ever, all Tennesseans want the opportunity to live and work with dignity and keep our families safe and healthy. But politicians in the state legislature, Congress, and the White House have pushed extreme, divisive agendas by attacking immigrants, pitting communities against each other, and ignoring demands for justice from Black and Brown communities.
In 49 days we have the opportunity to come together to support champions up and down the ballot that will fight for all of our communities. Now is the time for immigrant voters and our progressive allies to elect leaders that will put our interests first and make sure we all have what we need to get by.
That's why we are proud to endorse Gabby Salinas for House District 97. Gabby immigrated to Memphis from Bolivia as a young girl to receive life saving cancer treatment at Saint Jude's. Now a research scientist, she is a fierce advocate for Medicaid expansion and access to care, in-state tuition for undocumented youth and access to opportunity for all immigrant families. If elected, Gabby will be the first progressive Latina elected to the Tennessee state legislature, and members of the Latinx community across the state are ready to mobilize to contact voters in HD 97 to make sure she is elected.
We endorsed Gabby in 2018 when she ran to unseat Senator Brian Kelsey in SD 31. In that race, we expanded the electorate by reaching new and infrequent immigrant voters, helping Gabby to narrow the gap by less than 1,400 votes in a traditionally Republican district.
No matter what district you live in or whether you have the right to vote, you can help us elect champions who will stand with our communities:
Come to our launch event. Join us on September 24th to learn how to join the campaign.
Fuel our movement with a donation. Every contribution directly supports our work to get voters to the polls.
Pledge to be a pro-immigrant voter. We need to make sure voters across the state are prepared to cast a ballot before or on November 3rd.
We are building a powerful movement to make sure our elected officials truly work for all of us. Together, we can expand the electorate, support candidates up and down the ballot who will represent our values, and turn the tide in Tennessee.
Will you join us?
