Our power is undeniable. πͺπΌπͺπΏπͺπΎ
As the results of the Chattanooga runoff elections rolled in Tuesday night, one thing was clear: the power of our movement is undeniable.
With our partners, we built a multiracial, multigenerational coalition that got out the vote to make sure the mayor and city council recognize our power and will implement real solutions that support our communities. We mobilized volunteers alongside the Equity Alliance Fund and the Chattanooga Area Labor Council, and empowered grassroots groups like Tennessee United to contact voters across the city to make sure they had a plan to cast their ballots. We knocked on over 4,500 doors, made over 52,000 calls, sent over 15,000 text messages, and made sure thousands of pro-immigrant Chattanoogans used their voice in this election to vote for a city that works for all.
But we can't let up. Mayors and city councils have the power to implement bold policies and programs that protect immigrant families, increase access to good jobs, housing, and education, and build our shared prosperity. We are ready to work with the new municipal government of Chattanooga to realize our vision for a community where everyone belongs, no matter the color of our skin, where we are from, or what's in our wallets.
Will you chip in to help us keep the momentum? It's going to take all of us to hold our leaders in Chattanooga and across the state to their promises to pass policies that unite and support all of our communities.
As we work with leaders in Chattanooga to create a city where all belong, we will be registering more voters and turning our eyes to elections across the state to make sure pro-immigrant candidates win their elections and pass bold policy solutions that protect our communities. We know by focusing on local elections we can build more welcoming Tennessee from the ground up. Will you join us?
Onward,
Lisa Sherman-Nikolaus, Executive Director
